What Is Your Gift To The World?
In my last post, I talked about how I came to find my gift and purpose. In reality, that was just the moment when the light bulb went off.
We have many moments that subconsciously mold us into the person we are. I’m going to take you back to my childhood and tell you a story that I hold very close to my heart.
Growing up I was very close with my parents and grandparents. My parents would be at work all day so I remember spending most of my time with my grandparents. Both were retired professors with a passion for educating. My grandfather constantly challenged me and although he was very strict, he always led by example. He pushed me to set goals and helped me set a plan to achieve them! His method was so effective that he taught me how to do math before it was ever introduced in any of my classes. When he ran into his students from the past they talked about the impact he had on their lives. This man was very principled in the way he went about life; eating healthy, exercising, never smoking, and avoiding alcohol.
Each and every day of my grandfather’s life was scheduled out and strategically executed. During my summer vacations we would study together in the morning’s then play basketball in the evenings. Throughout elementary school he was my biggest influence. The man was retired but he understood that he had a gift and his purpose was to share it.
I can remember lying in bed early one morning and overhearing my dad on the phone. He received a phone call from the hospital that my grandfather had passed away. I refused to believe what I was hearing. I was in middle school now and although we didn’t see each other as much, our love and respect had not changed. For weeks, I visited him in the hospital but never thought any of those visits would be my last.
My grandfather had been fighting through an infection and eventually passed away from cancer.
I asked myself, how could someone who ate healthy, exercised, never smoked, never drank could develop such conditions? He lived an active life until he was bedridden and helpless.
My parents told me that he was dealing with health issues for a while and had been taking medications for years
Why didn’t the medications help? Why did his condition continue to get worse? I had a lot of questions that went unanswered for many years.
Your Body Has a Special Ability
Today I have the answers to these questions and I want everyone else to know too. First thing you must understand is that your body has the ability to self-regulate and heal, when it is functioning properly. This will be a topic in future posts but I do want to touch on it today. My grandfather waited until he had symptoms to get assessed. Many of us are guilty of the same and when we do get assessed, we want the fastest possible solution for our problems. We are made to be healthy and our body works to accomplish that. If we were made to be sick then we wouldn’t have the ability to heal and overcome many of the injuries and illnesses we face throughout our lives.
The Truth About Prescriptive Healthcare
Let’s discuss a common condition, hypertension (high blood pressure) for example (Disclaimer-this is strictly an example; every case is different and should be evaluated by a licensed professional).
When you go to the doctor and they find you have high blood pressure what is the first thing they recommend (not all but most)? Medications or drugs!
The goal of these medications is to bring your blood pressure numbers into the “normal” range but once you start these drugs, when do you get to stop?
Never.
You don’t stop medications after you start taking them.
That is because they are only temporarily masking the issue and not correcting the cause of the problem.
If you stop taking the drugs then your blood pressure goes back up. The root cause is the body not being able to self-regulate, leading to increased blood pressure values.
If we bring the blood pressure numbers down will your body start to self-regulate again? Of course not!
Hypertension is merely a symptom of dysfunction in your body. This is the reason it’s important to understand the principle that our body is meant to self-regulate and heal.
There are obvious emergency situations when external help is needed, however, I am talking about being proactive to allow your body to function optimally.
Had my grandfather been aware of this information, would things have been different? Possibly.
Would I be in this position talking about it? Probably not.
We must start living our lives as if we are meant to be healthy versus living to eventually become sick.

Live Every Day With Purpose
The stories and moments from past and present are what inspire me to get up every day with a purpose.
Whether you realize it yet or not, every moment that takes place in your life helps to support your purpose.
My grandfather was principled in serving his purpose, and I will continue to serve and impact the lives of my patients, family, and friends.
I challenge you to be that positive change for someone else. If you feel like you are stuck or have not found your purpose or passion then answer these three questions.
- What are things that you love to do?
- Which of these do you excel at?
- What does the world need you to do with this gift?
